Anthony Babatunde is a Public Health Specialist with a track record of effective implementation of various global health interventions, working in key thematic areas in Sickle Cell Disorder, HIV/AIDS, and Cardiovascular Emergency. He holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Policy and Management from the Prestigious University of Ibadan and holds several international certifications in Leadership and Management, Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation in Global Health among others from the University of Washington. Anthony is currently the Operations Manager of Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria were he provides leadership and supervision on the day to day running of the various units, providing solutions at top management level. Anthony has directly been involved in Health Systems Strengthening in various programmes such as the Global Fund-Investing for Impact in HIV/TB (at the Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative), as well as in the PEPFAR Strengthening Integrated Delivery of HIV/AIDS Services (SIDHAS programme) implemented by Family Health International. As a Prevention Care and Treatment officer in the SIDHAS project, he successfully collaborated with the Drug Therapeutic Committee in the clinical audit of over 3500 clients’ folders (within one year) targeted at optimizing the Quality of Health of clients with a concurrent 80% improvement on viral load testing, Enhanced Adherence Counselling, tracking and prompt regimen switching resulting in over 95% viral suppression. He is among others, one of the Site Coordinators of the University of Washington’s online courses here in Nigeria and has successfully coordinated trainings for over 600 healthcare professionals in the last 3 years. The courses he coordinates include - Leadership and Management in Health, Project Management in Global Health, as well as Monitoring and Evaluation in Global Health. Anthony is also a certified cardiovascular emergency trainer with the Rescue and Safety Support Initiative who takes delight in training young professionals (Doctors, Nurses, and students). He has successfully facilitated several cardio-emergency trainings in Universities and Colleges of Nursing across Nigeria.

Prof. Titi Adeyemo; MSc, FMCPath, obtained her medical degree at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, and had residency training in hematology & blood transfusion at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital earning a fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPath). She also obtained a Masters’ degree in Hemoglobinopathies at the University College London with a Distinction. She joined the world of academia in 2009 with a lecturer 1 position in the Department of Hematology & Blood Transfusion, faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos and rose to the position of Professor of Hematology in a span of 13 years. She is also a Consultant-Specialist hematopathologist to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital from about the same time where she has held the position of Head of Department between 2016 to 2018. Her research and clinical interests are in sickle cell disease (SCD), blood transfusion and inherited bleeding disorders. She was pivotal to the upgrade and modernisation of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital blood bank and donors’ clinic ensuring the consistent availability of blood components particularly platelet concentrate and fresh frozen plasma to the medical community and the computerization of the voluntary blood donor register. She has been working in the lead and in alliance with the haemoglobin reference laboratory and the apheresis Unit (aka Muyiwa Talabi EBT unit) at the Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria since 2013 to provide accurate and reliable diagnosis of haemoglobinopathies and ensuring availability of emergency and routine apheresis (blood exchange) procedure for sickle and non-sickle patients that needs the services. Prof Adeyemo pioneered the bleeding disorder clinic and the World bleeding disorder registry at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. She is a member of several university and hospital Committees including the Bone Marrow Transplant Committee charged with the mandate to set up a joint SCFN/LUTH Stem Cell Transplant program for sickle cell disease and other hematological diseases. She is also a member of the national Working Group on the review of the National Guideline for the Control and Management of Sickle cell disease in Nigeria. She is the Principal Investigator and Co-investigator of several funded ongoing collaborative research in SCD, anaemia and haemophilia including a NIH funded grant: SickleGenAfrica: Sickle Cell Disease Genomics Network of Africa, Low dose aspirin for preventing intrauterine growth restriction and preeclampsia in sickle cell pregnancy (PIP-SICKLE): a randomized controlled trial, Intravenous versus oral iron for iron deficiency anaemia in pregnant and post-partum Nigerian women (IVON & IVON-PP): open labelled, randomized controlled trials and Assessing Combination Hydroxyurea and Exogenous Erythropoietin in Sickle Cell Disease (ACHiEvE-SCD). She is also the Principal Investigator of the Sickle Cell Disease Registry, Nigeria, Sponsored by the SCFN with the objective to collect real time, multi-center, prospective, and longitudinal data of patients with SCD to provide local evidence to improve the quality of care of persons living with SCD and provide data for advocacy. Prof. Adeyemo has authored and co-authored over 80 publications in both local and international peer reviewed Journals. She is married to Prof Lanre Adeyemo, and they are blessed with 3 children, Habeeb, Habeebah and Hameedah.

Prof Temiye, is a graduate of the University of Ibadan where he obtained his MB;BS degree in June 1984. He had his residency training at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and obtained his fellowship of the West African College of Physicians, Faculty of Paediatrics in 1996. He was employed as lecturer 1 in the Department of Paediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Lagos in October 1999 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Paediatrics in October 2011. He is a Fellow, the Nigerian Academy of Medicine (FNAMed). In the past 2½ decades, he has had extensive training both locally and internationally in the field of Paediatric haematology/oncology and HIV medicine. He attended the workshop training on Paediatric HIV Management at the Golda Meir Mashav-Carmel International Training Center, Haifa, Israel 2007. He was also at the St Jude Research Children’s Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, in 2012 on observership in Children cancer management. Prof Temiye is the Chairman of the Bone Marrow Transplant Working Group, working with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, in conjunction with the Sickle Cell Foundation, Nigeria, with support from the Lagos State Government and Chevron/NNPC joint venture, to bring to fruition in the shortest possible time a modern, well-equipped Bone Marrow transplant centre in Lagos. Recently, in February 2023, he was at the Vanderbilt-Meharry Sickle Cell Centre of Excellence, for Bone Marrow Transplant, Nashville, Tennessee, United States, for onsite experience on bone marrow transplantation procedure, with Prof Adetola Kassim who is the lead at the Vanderbilt-Meharry Sickle Cell Centre of Excellence for bone marrow transplant. He has carried out research in paediatric haematology/oncology with special interest in sickle cell disease management and research. These include research into local products in the management of the disease. This led to his involvement in the investigations of a local medicinal product Ciklavit ® for the treatment sickle cell disease. He has also conducted research in the use of Solamin and L-arginine in the management of sickle cell disorder. Professor Temiye also participated in extensive research and care of paediatric HIV disease in Nigeria and is an active participant in PEPFAR/APIN programme in Nigeria. In collaboration with his co-workers, he has developed management protocols for paediatric cancer care in Nigeria; his special interest in this sphere is acute leukaemias in children. He is a honorary Consultant to the Lagos University Teaching hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos. He has authored and co-authored more than 78 articles published in both national and international peer-reviewed journals. He has successfully supervised/mentored more than 20 specialists in his area of specialisation over these years. He is happily married and blessed with four lovely children and two grandchildren.
