Message From The National Director
Nigeria is the sickle cell disorder capital of the world! And
over the past 30 years, it has been Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria (SCFN) to the
rescue!
Sickle cell disorder is a hereditary blood disorder characterized by excruciating
pain, severe shortage of blood and serious complications such as stroke in children.
In addition, affected persons often have to deal with social stigma and
discrimination, sorrow, and the fear and anxiety of untimely death.
SCFN has been that beacon on a hill, providing hope, succor and inspiration for
persons living with sickle cell disorder and their families, empowering them and
supporting them to live normal, pain-free lives.
Through its holistic approach - encompassing public awareness, advocacy, prevention, medical
care, psychosocial support and welfare, SCFN has made
significant strides in improving the lives of those living with SCD in Nigeria and beyond.
As we look to the future, the work of SCFN remains vital in ensuring that individuals with
SCD continue to receive the care, support, andk opportunities they need to thrive, lead
fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
As Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria celebrates its 30th anniversary, we look to the future
with optimism and determination, poised to continue making a positive impact in the lives of
individuals and families affected by sickle cell disorder for another 30 years and beyond!
